Whenever American President travels through a plane in any part of the world, then that Air Force Jet plane is called as Air Force One. In general term, the Air Force One is a plane whose primary motive is to transport the President of United States. Air Force One aircrafts are most famous aircrafts among all aircrafts across the world, as it resembles the prominent symbol of power and Presidency or the American President.
Because of its popularity, media usually refers Air Force One aircraft as a ‘Flying White House’ since it carries US President.
It was in 1943, when the concept of Air Force One was designed by the US Army Air Force officials, who specified military aircraft for the transportation of the US president, because they did not wanted to depend on the commercial aircrafts. At the same time, C 87 Liberator Express plane was recommended for the transport of the President, but that proposal was rejected by the US officials, since the security means of C 87 Liberator Express was not that good.
After many discussions and presentations, C-54 Skymaster was selected as the first Air Force One plane which transported President F. D. Roosevelt in 1945 to the Yalta Conference. Later, President H. S. Truman travelled through Air Force One, for another two years.
In 1953, Air Force One (along with US President D. D. Eisenhower) and a commercial plane was accidently flying in same airspace of each another, hence ‘Air Force One’ call sign was introduced for the security.
After C-54 Skymaster plane, many aircrafts has transported US President through Air Force One. In 1990, a specified plane Boeing VC 25 AS was configured as an Air Force One plane, which was one of the Boeing 747-200B’s highly customized planes. Presently, two Air Force Planes can be replaced with Boeing planes. The US Air Force has plans to develop three Air Force One planes in the financial year 2017, 2019 and the 2021.
