Boeing is the largest manufacturer of aircraft in the world in terms of transactions and financials as well as third largest global aerospace and defense contractor based on defense revenue. William E Boeing set up the corporation as Pacific Aero Products Company in Seattle, Washington on 15th July 1916.
The corporation has several business verticals, which are Boeing Shared Services Group, Boeing Capital, Boeing Defense, Space and Security (BDS) and Boeing Commercial Airplanes (BCA). Boeing started its manufacturing with seaplanes and the company became the Boeing Airplane Company on May 9, 1917. In the year 1929, the corporation was renamed as United Aircraft and Transport Corporation. Boeing moved the corporate headquarter from Seattle to Chicago in September 2001.
Design and Development of Boeing Airplanes :
Boeing introduced the first real modern aircraft in 1933, named as Boeing 247. Boeing 247 was much safer, faster, and easier to take off than other airplanes and it was the first twin engine passenger airplane which could be successful in flying on one engine. The Boeing 247 was an extraordinary success and it was showcase of the company which was exhibited at Chicago World's Fair of 1933. Sonic Cruiser was launched by the company in 2001 to promote the new motto of the company. This was the first step towards streamlining of production. The Boeing 787 model became one of the extremely popular choices with airlines. The Boeing 787 is a twin-engine jet airliner long range, mid-sized, wide-body developed by the BCA. Its seating capacity is 210-310 depending on different varieties. According to Boeing, it is the company's most fuel-efficient airplane along with worldwide first main aircraft to use amalgamated materials for the most of its production.
The company also launched Boeing 737 and Boeing 777 models. The 777 is a long and wide-body double engine jetliner produced by Boeing Commercial Airplanes. The Boeing 777 is the world's biggest double engine jetliner as well as it is usually known as the "Triple Seven". It has seating capacity of over three hundred passengers. The unique features of Boeing 777 include the 6 wheels on all main landing gear, biggest diameter turbofan engines, blade-shaped tail cone and a circular fuselage cross-section. Boeing 777 is the commercial aircraft which is first completely computer-designed aircraft.
The Boeing 787 model became one of the extremely popular choices with airlines. The Boeing 707 is a 4-engined commercial passenger jetliner developed by the company in the initial years of 1950s. The Boeing 707 is frequently pronounced as "Seven Oh Seven". Though “seven oh seven” was not the first commercial jet in service, it was the first to be commercially successful. The Boeing 707 dominated passenger air transport in the 1960s and 1970s. It recognized the company as one of the largest makers of passenger airplane.
The 747 model is a large body commercial aircraft and freight transport, frequently known as Queen of the Skies or Jumbo Jet. The Boeing 747 is the world's most renowned aircraft as well as was the first large body ever manufactured. The primitive version of the Boeing 747 was 2.5 times the size of the Seven Oh Seven. The Boeing 747 is a four-engine aircraft and the aircraft is available for freighters, passengers and other versions.
NASA announced that the company would produce contractor for the liquid-fueled of the Ares I rocket on August 18, 2007.
